Privacy Policy

BorealCV ("BorealCV", "we") provides a free, independent tool for building resumes, cover letters, and application documents aligned with Canadian and Quebec hiring norms. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec, or any employer. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use this site.

The short version

The resume, cover letter, and any text you type into the tool are processed entirely inside your own browser. Nothing is transmitted to our servers or stored by us. There is no account, no sign-up, and no database of user resumes. Closing your tab or clearing your browser data erases this content.

Information you provide

Anything you type into the resume builder, checker, cover letter tool, or GC screening assistant — your name, work history, education, and any other content — is kept only in your browser's local storage (a standard web browser feature), so your draft survives a page refresh or an accidental tab close. This data:

• Is never sent to our servers or to a BorealCV database — we do not operate one.
• Never leaves your device as part of the tool's normal operation.
• Is visible only in your own browser, and is deleted if you clear the site's data in your browser, or if you use the app's "Clear local draft" or "Start over" controls.

If you use the file-import feature to convert an existing resume, that file is also read and processed locally in your browser — it is never uploaded to a server.

Information collected automatically

As with virtually all websites, requests to BorealCV pass through our hosting provider's infrastructure, which may log some standard technical information for security and operational purposes — for example, IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamp. We do not currently use any analytics tools or tracking scripts, and we do not use these logs to identify individual visitors or build profiles.

Cookies and local storage

BorealCV does not currently use any tracking or advertising cookies. We use your browser's local storage only to save your in-progress draft on your own device, as described above.

Fonts and third-party resources

The fonts on this site (Newsreader, Plus Jakarta Sans, and IBM Plex Mono) are served through Next.js's built-in optimization, which downloads and self-hosts the font files at build time. Your browser therefore makes no requests to Google's servers to load these fonts, and no font-related data is transmitted to Google.

Advertising

BorealCV does not currently display any third-party advertising. If we introduce advertising in the future (for example, through a network like Google AdSense), those ad networks may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Before enabling advertising, we will update this policy to name the ad network(s) used and explain how to manage ad personalization (for example, via Google Ad Settings).

Your rights under PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25

Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Law 25, you have the right to know what personal information an organization holds about you, to access it, to have it corrected, and to request its deletion. Since your resume content never reaches our servers, we have nothing of that kind to hold, correct, or delete — it stays in your own browser. Children's privacy

BorealCV is aimed at job seekers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If how we handle information changes — for instance, if we introduce advertising or analytics tools — we will update this page and the date shown above.
